puli upma/pulusu nuga


Puli upma is a very easy recipe.It is prepared with broken rice either raw rice or boiled rice both are suitable for preparation of this upma. It gives a different taste.Procedure is so simple. I hope you all will enjoy the  taste.

  
Ingredients 
broken rice - 1 cup.
onion - 1 (chopped)
water - 4  cup.
tamarind - big amla size
jaggery - 3/4 spoon.
green chillies - 4.
salt - to taste.

Seasoning
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
channa dal - 1 tsp.
oil -to fry. 
cilantro - 1 tbsp.

Preparation 
  •  Soak the broken rice for half an hour in water.
  •  Prepare tamarind extract with  1/2 cup of water.{water and tamarind extract together should be 41/2 cups}. 

Method
  • Heat the oil add mustard seeds ,when it start spluttering add  chana dal, when it turns golden brown add green chillies.
  • Then add chopped onion when it turns golden brown, add 4 cups of water along with tamarind extract (soaked in 1/2 cup of water).
  •  When it start boiling  add jaggery and salt stir well .
  •  Finally add broken rice .stir well { so that it should not get lumps}.
  • Stir till all the water drains, and the rice is cooked.
  • Garnish with chopped cilantro.
