sambar sadam is a South Indian recipe. This rice is prepared with all the veggies. Toor dal is also added to the rice which contains lots of protein.Toor dal is a staple food in Indian diet when added with rice and incorporated with veggies and masala paste which gives delicious taste to rice.
Sambar Rice |
Ingredients
Rice- 3/4 cup.
Toor Dal -1/4 cup.
salt - required.
Tamarind - Big amla size.
pearl onion - 10.
oil - to fry.
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
curry leaves -10.
Water - 3 cups.
turmeric - 1/4 tsp.
turmeric - 1/4 tsp.
Veggies
Carrot -2 (Medium Size)
beans - 10.
potato -1 (boiled)
Hing - 2 pinch.
Jaggery - 1/2 tsp.
To prepare Paste
Red Chillies - 10.
Channa Dal - 1 tbsp.
Urad Dal - 1 tsp.
Coriander seeds - 1 tbsp.
jeera - 1/2 tsp.
fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp.
coconut - 3 tbsp (Grated).
Prepare a paste by sauting it in a dry kadai without oil till the ingredients turns golden brown,finally add coconut saute for 2 minutes. Then grind it in a blender as a fine paste.
Preparation
- Soak the tamarind in 1/2 cup of Water [for 1 hr] to prepare tamarind extract, throw the pulp and retain the water.
- Chop and boil the veggies and potatoes.
- Pressure cook rice and toor dal together with 3 cups of water[like we cook normal rice].
Method
- Heat the oil add Mustard seeds when it splutters, add pearl onions saute it well.
- Add Tamarind Extract along with water.
- When the Extract start boiling add turmeric, salt,ground paste(we prepared already) allow it to boil.[check for taste, if u feel anything is lesser add the needed accordingly].
- when it start boiling add chopped veggies, allow it to boil for 5 to 7 min.add 1/4 cup of water allow it to boil.
- Then add boiled rice with toor dal to the boiling content.
- Stir well for 5 min.
- Serve hot.It serves very well with Appalam.
