Puli Idli upma/pulusu kudumu podi

This upma is tastes similar to tamarind upma.It is easy to prepare and does not require much time to prepare.
Ingredients
idli rice- 1 cup.
tamarind - medium amla size.
salt - for taste.
red chillies - 5.
jaggery - 11/2 spoon.
coconut - 1/4 cup.
Seasoning.
Mustard Seeds - 1tsp.
urad dal - 1 tsp.
chana dal - 1 tbsp.
oil -to fry [ 1 tbsp].
curry leaves - 15.
water - 1/4 cup.
Preparation
  • Soak the idli rice seperately for 3 to 4 hrs.
  • Soak the chana dal seperately for 3 to 4 hrs.
Method
  • Grind soaked idli rice,tamarid, redchillies, jaggery, coconut,salt to a course paste with needed water. [consistency should be moderate like idli batter].
  • Now the batter is ready.now add soaked  chana dal to the batter.stir well.
  • Using idli mould prepare idli's.[pour the ladle of batter into each idli mould and steam it for 15 minutes as you prepare normal idli's without using weight].
  • When the idli's cooled down,crumble the idli's, as shown in the above picture.
  • Now heat the oil, add mustard seeds when it splutters add urad dal when it turns golden brown add curry leaves saute well.
  • now add 1/4 cup of water.[it gives softness to upma].
  • when it starts boiling add crumbled idli's. mix well for few seconds.
  • Now puli idli upma is ready to eat.
