Valakkai poriyal -Aratikaya Thalimpu - plantain fry


 

The green banana is best eaten cooked, either boiled or fried. Nutritionally, the green banana is a good source of fiber, vitamins and minerals, and contains a starch that may help control blood sugar, manage weight and lower blood cholesterol levels.Now we prepare a delicious  plantain fry or valakkai poriyal.




Ingredients
plantain - 1.
cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp.
red chillies - 2.
coconut - 1 tbsp.
oil - to fry.
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp.

Preparation

Peel the skin and cut the plantain into semi-circles, and immerse it in a bowl of water.
grind cumin seeds,red chillies,coconut and salt into a dry powder.

Method

Heat the oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds when it splutters, drain the water and add chopped  plantain.cook it covered, stir frequently, drizzle few drops of water in between,while sauting.
when 3/4 of it is cooked, add dry powder, stir frequently until it is fully cooked.
Now plantain fry is ready.
