Delicious Dinner Rolls

There's nothing quite like a good dinner roll, warm out of the oven. A good roll melts in your mouth and makes you cry a little inside for your mother or grandmother (whoever was the good roll maker). These rolls are my go-to. They are light and fluffy and simple to make. Rolling them up like a pillsbury crescent makes them look all fancy. After baking you could brush them with melted butter for added goodness, but I find I just end up with kids with buttery hands if I do that. I love the melted butter and can handle it, but my kids and couches totally cannot.

Makes 1 dozen rolls

Ingredients

1 cup warm milk
1 tablespoon  yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tsp salt
3 tablespoons butter, softened
1 egg
3-4 cups all purpose flour

Instructions

1. Combine all ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer.

2. Turn mixer on low until all ingredients are combined.

3. Turn mixer speed up and continue kneading about 5 minutes.

4. Let dough rise, covered, for 1 hour.

5. Roll dough into a large rectangle (long side of the rectangle is horizontal, short side vertical)

6. Cut the dough into 6 strips. Cut each of the six strips into 2 triangles.

7. Roll each triangle of dough up starting from the fat side, ending with the point.

8. Put rolls on a lightly greased jelly roll pan. Let rise about 30 minutes.

9. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake rolls for 12-15 minutes until lightly browned. Brush with additional melted butter while hot (optional).
