Cauliflower pakodas are an all time favorite tea time-snack, which you can find almost anywhere in India. In the North it is more commonly known as gobi pakoda. It is deep fried and has a crunchy coating.....a perfect snack for kids.
My kids Christianed these simple desi snack as cauliflower bites, their argument is "amma, it is bite-sized and batter fried". It seems on a visit to a fast-food joint with with their cousins, they found this description on the menu instead of pakodas.....
This is a perfect appetizer for a party or when kids come over for a game. You can insert a toothpick on each pakoda for easy handling.
Tips: The batter should not be very thick and not very loose. Rice flour and baking soda gives it a crunchy coating. For healthier version, try using half and half wheat flour and plain flour or even besan flour.

How I make:
Ingredients:
Caulifower: One small, cut cauliflower florets into small pieces.
Flour: 1/2 cup.
Raw rice flour: 1/4 cup (optional)
Cornflour: 1/4 cup.
Soya sauce: 1 tsp.
Kashmiri Chilly powder: 1 tsp.
Pepper powder: 1/2 tsp.
Baking soda: A fat pinch (optional).
Salt about 1/2 tsp or depending on your taste.
Water to mix the flours
Oil for frying.
Method
In a bowl add the flours, chilly powder, pepper powder, baking soda, soya sauce, salt, and mix with a spoon. Make a small well in the middle and add enough water to make it into a lump-less-not-very-thick-batter. Whisk the batter nicely with a fork or whisk. Heat a kadai or pan with oil. Dip each cauliflower florets into the batter.
And deep fry in the hot oil, turning the sides till it is golden brown.
Serve hot with tomato sauce or chilly sauce.
Enjoy :)
