Tomato Rice - Simple Tomato Rice Recipe - Thakkali sadam -Tomato Annam

Tomato rice is a simple Rice Variety made with Tomato and Onions. This recipe is very simple and spicy. It is a bachelor recipe. Busy Women and bachelors can make this sauce,when they gets time and refrigerate it for days.Tomatoes is a good source of Vitamins A, C, K, folate and potassium. Tomatoes are naturally low in sodium, saturated fat, cholesterol, and calories. Tomatoes also provide thiamin, niacin, vitamin B6, magnesium, phosphorus and copper, all of which are necessary for good health.


Tomato Annam


Ingredients

Basmathi rice - 1 cup.
Onion (big) - 1.
Tomato - 3.
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp.
Chilli powder - 1 tsp.
Turmeric Powder - 1/8 tsp.
salt - for taste.
Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp.
mint leaves - 6.
 Bay leaf - 1.
fennel seeds - 15(1/4 tsp).
cloves - 1.
Green chillies - 1.
oil - 2 tbsp.
Ghee - 1 tsp.

Preparation

How to Cook Basmathi Rice

  • Wash the rice, two or three times,till the water appears clear,so that starch could be removed.
  • To get fluffier rice, soak 1 cup of basmathi rice, with 1.75 cups  of water for 30 minutes.
  • Cooked rice expands its size to 3 time, so select the proper pan.
  • Pressure cook it for 1 whistle.
  • When pressure subsides, fluff the rice with fork. This is the basic Method of cooking basmathi rice.

    Method
    • Heat the oil and ghee in a kadai, add Bay leaf,fennel seeds,cloves - 1,Green chillies - 1,Saute well, till it turns fragrant.
    • Add Chopped Onions, add ginger garlic paste saute well, till onions turn pink.
    • Add Tomatoes  and salt, saute for few seconds, then add chilli powder,turmeric, coriander leaves,mint leaves, saute everything till tomatoes comes in the form of gravy(thokku), and the oil seperates, it should maintain its gravy consistency.
    • Then add Rice and Mix well gently.Let it sit aside for 15 min. Then serve with Appalam or chips.
