It's no secret that I love glitter. Personally, I think that glitter makes everything better. My Christmas decor is filled with glitter, and my ornaments are no exception. I love how magical it all looks once the Christmas lights hit the sparkles. These ornaments are simple to make, and really go quickly once you get started. The technique is quite similar to my other holiday glitter projects like the Glitter Snowman, Valentine Love Jars, Love Potion No. 9 Jar, and the Eek! Witchy Jars.
Supplies:
Glass Ornaments
Pledge Floor Finish
Glitter
Small, disposable cup
Paper (one, disposable sheet)
A few things about the glitter I used. This glitter collection is the Recollections Glitter. I absolutely love it! It starts at $3.99 at Michaels stores, and comes in a large selection of colors and textures (extra fine, chunky, and tinsel). You can buy the glitters separately or in a set (as seen above).
You can use these glitters on pretty much any project, but for these particular ornaments, the finer the glitter, the better. I used the extra fine glitter in Bling, extra fine glitter in Glitz, and the Champagne tinsel glitter. The tutorial shown is all using the Champagne tinsel glitter.
First, carefully remove top off the glass ornament. Set aside. If the inside of the ornament is dusty or dirty, carefully rinse under water to clean.
Pour a small amount of the Pledge Floor Finish into the ornament. If some of the finish gets on the outside, immediately wipe off with a damp cloth or baby wipe and dry with a tissue. It will get really tacky and leave marks if you leave it on.
Slowly swirl the ornament around until the entire inside of the ornament is coated. Even though it's clear, you can see any areas that haven't been covered. As you get closer to the top, hold the ornament over the disposable cup and pour the excess floor finish out. Hold upside down for a few seconds, then turn it upright again. Wipe any drips.
Create a paper funnel (roll the paper so you have a small end) and tape to hold in place. If you have a funnel for glittering, that will work, too! Place the small end of the funnel into the ornament (not too far in).
With your other hand (or a helper), pour in some glitter. Fill the ornament less than 1/4 full. You'll get a better idea of how much glitter to add after the first ornament you make. If you end up not having enough, you can always add more.
Just like you did with the floor finish, slowly swirl the glitter around the ornament. Keep turning the ornament and slowly tilting back into the glitter container to pour out the excess glitter. Yes, you CAN reuse the glitter that comes out of the ornament!!
Add the top back to the ornament, and repeat the process until you have all the ornaments you want! This goes by pretty quick, but turning on a Christmas movie while you create ornaments makes it a little more festive. These are also a great craft night idea!! You can also add vinyl or write with a Sharpie to personalize your ornaments!
Some ornaments only have the metal hook at the top, so I just tied some string to be able to hang them on the tree easily. The ornaments sparkle with the Christmas lights and are so much fun! I kind of want to make more, but my tree is already packed full of glittery goodness!!
