Speculoos & The Art of Sabrage #Weekly Menu Plan

speculoos: simple living and eating

Champagne! In victory one deserves it; in defeat one needs it.

Napoleon famously proclaimed this, so when his troops obtained Champagne they would pop the corks off with their sabers as they rode away on horseback… thus the name Sabrage for the art of removing a Champagne cork with a sword.

If you would like to mesmerize, and quite possible terrorize your friends this New Year's Eve come by:

Union Hall in North Salem, NY
on December 22nd
between 3 pm and 5pm
to learn the art of Sabrage.

This is a fundraiser for The Way of the Sword School of Fencing of which both my children attend.

My daughter and I are making the appetizers for this fundraiser. One of the treats we decided to make are Speculoos the holiday spiced biscuit that is traditionally made this time of year in Northern France, Holland, Belgium and Germany.

Speculoos are infused with the flavors of Christmas: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and ginger… the smell of these baking will put you into a Yule Tide mood. You can imprint them with any cookie cutter image you have. We have a message maker from William Sonoma… but any image or plain is great.

Enjoy… may your holidays be filled with flowing Champagne and tasty treats.
