I just love decorating for Valentine's Day! There are so many options and I can't resist making more to add to my collection. Especially ones like the project I'm going to show you today. This took me all of about 15 minutes from beginning to end. Probably less without all the picture-taking. Plus, if you were to buy all the supplies needed for this project, it would cost less than $10, and you'd have extra supplies for other projects. Can't beat that, right?
One song that I hear a lot more often around Valentine's Day {besides traditional love songs} is Love Potion No. 9. Gotta love the oldies! There's even a movie about it. So, what better way to spread the love this time of year than making your own potion* to add to your fun & romantic Valentine's decor?
*I don't recommend drinking this potion... it won't taste very good and will probably damage your insides. Repeat Crafter Me just shared a yummy recipe that you can drink to your heart's content!
Here's how you can make your own Love Potion No. 9:
Step 1: Get your supplies.
You'll need:
- A jar {I found mine at Hobby Lobby for around $2}
There are endless cute jars to pick from, and come in all shapes & sizes. Any kind you choose will look great! - Glitter. Any color you want your "potion" to be will look fabulous. I went with gold.
The finer your glitter, the better.
You'll also need:
- Floor finish {You should be able to find it in any grocery store for about $5}
I use Pledge brand, and a little goes a long way. I've covered multiple jars with this technique and have not even used half of the floor finish. - 2 small cups
Use something that can be thrown away. I prefer to use plastic cups, but paper should work great as well.
Step 2: Pour some floor finish into the jar. Fill the jar about 1/2 - 1 inch, more or less depending on the size of your jar {better to pour more than not enough, and you will pour out the excess anyway}.
Step 3: Slowly swirl the jar in a circle, tilting just a little to coat the entire inside of the jar. When you get closer to the lip of the jar, keep swirling over a cup and let the floor finish spill out into the cup. Once inside is completely coated, hold the jar upside down over the cup for a minute to make sure to get rid of the excess floor finish. You don't want it to pool in the bottom. A little bit is fine, but you don't want a lot.
Step 4: Repeat steps 2 & 3, but with glitter. Pour a bunch of glitter into the jar and slowly turn the jar until the jar is completely covered. Tilt jar over a cup to catch glitter as it gets near the top and pour the excess glitter into another cup.
You can reuse both the extra glitter and the floor finish for more jars or other projects.
Step 5: Add a label! I printed out the label on regular copy paper and attached it to the jar with gluestick. Tape or spray adhesive would work great as well.
