How to Make "Bubble Bee" Party Favors

My miracle baby turned three last week and for months has been talking about how he's going to have a "bee party." I am all about avoiding commercialized birthdays for as long as possible (previous birthday themes have included pandas and a farm party) so I was eager to make him a fun bee party - especially since I could get most of the supplies from the dollar store. Supplies

Wedding bubbles from the dollar store
Yellow duct tape
Black electrical tape
Yellow and black craft paint
Mod Podge (I used extra glossy formula)
Tiny googley eyes

Directions

Step 1: Tape bottles

Wrap a piece of yellow duct tape about the bottle of the bottle. Our duct tape was twice as wide as the bottles were high so we cut each strip in half and could cover two bottles with each piece. Cut a piece of electrical tape in half length-wise and wrap it around the bottles as well for stripes

Step 2: Paint lids

Use the yellow craft paint to paint the lids with two coats of paint (allowing to dry between coats). Use black paint to make a half-circle head, a stripe and paint the thumb tab black for a stinger as shown. Allow to dry completely.

Step 3: Mod Podge

Once the paint is dry completely, use Mod Podge to simultaneously seal the paint and attach the eye balls. Give the lid a generous coat of Mod Podge using a foam brush and while wet, place the eyes and press down. Allow to dry completely.

Step 4: Put them up for adoption

Bring your new bubble bees to your birthday party to give out as favors. These could also make fun camp crafts or be a good project to do as part of a home school learning series on bees.

(I don't know about you, but I think there are few things in life cuter than a little boy who wants to adopt tiny animals to take care of them. K loved these little "baby bees" and was very gentle with them)
