DIY Stocking Hangers

This is our first year with a mantel! I am so excited. Last year we had to make do with what we had, so I got creative and made a different kind of way to display our stockings. This year I wanted to make use of our mantel, so here is how I made some super easy {and super cute} stocking hangers:

Supplies:
  • 2x4 blocks {cut about 4-5 inches long}
  • Wooden Drawer Pulls
  • White Paint {I used FolkArt in Winter White}
  • Silver Paint {I used Rustoelum Metallic Finish in silver}
  • Krylon Glitter Blast {silver} or glitter paint, Mod Podge & glitter, etc
  • Glue {I used E6000}

Step 1: Start by painting the blocks white. I used about 3 coats on each block.

Step 2: Paint the drawer pulls silver. I painted two coats on each one with some Rustoleum Metallic silver spray paint. Acrylic paint would work fine, too.

Step 3: Paint a layer or two of silver Krylon Glitter Blast spray paint over each of the blocks. You don't need to paint the bottom since they will be sitting on your mantel or shelf.

If you don't have or don't want to use the glitter spray paint, I would highly recommend using FolkArt Extreme Glitter paint in Silver. I didn't want to over-do the glitter {this time}, and both those paints add just a hint of sparkle, plus they seal in the glitter so it doesn't get everywhere.

Step 4: Glue the drawer pulls onto the front of the blocks. I used E6000 glue to make sure they were not going to fall off anytime soon. You could also use a glue gun to attach the drawer pulls.

Step 5: Let dry, hang your stocking on the knob, and you're done! These would be so cute with a photo, name, or initial on top of the blocks, but for now I love how my Glitter Christmas Trees look on top of the stocking hangers!
