Do you know what you're giving Dad for Father's Day yet? Beckie from Infarrantly Creative upcycled an old wooden box tray into this cute game board and used bottle caps for pieces. I love this idea for a game-loving (or brew-loving) dad. You could even Mod Podge pictures of chess pieces to the undersides so that the board does double duty.
