coconut idli-thenkaya kudumu - thenga idli

We all would have tried different types of  Idli's.This coconut idli is a unique idli variety.It is a famous recipes of vysyas. Coconut is highly nutritious and rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It is classified as a "functional food" because it provides many health benefits beyond its nutritional content. No we prepare a delicious idli with coconut.


Ingredients
Raw rice - 1 cup.
water - 3 cup.
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup.
Chana dal - 2 tbsp.
Moong dal-1 tbsp
salt - for taste.
Preparation of Idli Rava
  • Wash and drain the rice.Dry the rice.[Should not be completely dried ].
  • When it dried 3/4th .put in a mixie and grind it like rava.[when it becomes fully dried if u put in a mixie it becomes powder. so it should be dried 3/4th].now idli rava is ready.
Note: You can prepare idli rava and place it in a container,for future use.

Method
  • Pour 3 cups of water in a pan.Add chana dal,Moong dal,grated coconut, salt.
  • Allow it to boil. When the water starts boiling add idli Rava that we prepared already.
  • [Pour idli rava in left hand,stir it in a right hand.].It should not have any lumps.
  • stir well , till the water drains, and gets the form of dough.[till it leaves the sides of kadai as shown in the picture.]
  • when the dough cools down, place it  on a plate and spread it using fingers.


  • Steam the idli's  it for 10 to 15  minutes , like  we cook normal idli.Now coconut idli is ready.
  • Now cut it using a knife.
  • Coconut idli goes well with Tomato chutney,Onion chutney and coconut chutney.
